HoI4 BICE Graphics Art Gallery Sprites
Hearts of Iron 4 BICE can be Holy Grail on Wargames? When searching the Holy Grail of Grand Strategy World War II games, you can find very interesting boardgames but also a few computer games that contains lots of details on the conflict. This is the case of the Hearts of Iron 4, which comes with a new 3D map that reflects day and night with extraordinary visual effects. The carpet bombing and others night battles show pretty impressive in the screen. On the downside, I sometimes feel that it is complicated to move the armies and take decisions when you have many sprites (the newest 3D models/sprites are really well-done) running along the screen. Some users tend to prioritize the NATO counters instead of sprites, but honestly I think which is the point to play counters on a beautiful 3D map? Perhaps, the solution would be to come back to maps of Third Reich boardgame fashion, and then use counters.
Now I was making some experiments, learning the game too, using the small sprites mod that allows to reduce infantry size a 40% as well as other units. The visibility of the battlefield increases notably. By installing another mod that increases size of tanks, you can also see details of tank text Polish Poznan city resists admirably the attacks from 6 German divisions from west. Anti-air weapons try to defend the city from the He-111 Luftwaffe bombers in night attacks. I predict that HoI4 can become a source of realistic artistic photography inspired by World War II.
I also play with the latest Black ICe mod version 2.5. It is an impressive mod with lots of details, that makes the simulation much more realistic but also pays the price that you have to be very attentive and stop often clock because the options are intimidating…Some real clock connected to the simulation clock may be needed I should also check if the latest skins for different nation sprites are compatible or not with BICE.
